Live and work at our farm! Our Mataranka farm is located about 420 km southeast of the territory capital of Darwin, and 100 km south of Katherine, easy access from the highway.

Griffith (NSW):

Live in Griffith, work at our farm! Our farm is in Nericon about 20 km from Griffith. Griffith is a major regional city in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area.

Rombola Family Farms encompasses over 4,000 hectares of intensive irrigated horticultural production at Griffith (NSW) and Mataranka (NT). Agricultural enterprises include almonds, wine grapes, seedless watermelon, rockmelons, broccoli, and pumpkin. Operations include primary production, processing, value adding and marketing. 

We are seeking a passionate and driven Irrigation Supervisor / 2IC to join our team in Griffith, NSW. The Irrigation Supervisor will report to the Irrigation Manager and assist in the day-to-day irrigating and fertigating of wine grapes and almond plantation, coordination of all irrigation infrastructure servicing, repairs and maintenance, and trouble shooting and coordinating all key maintenance aspects of the system.

The ideal candidate will be motivated, hands on and able to work under pressure. They will possess a unique blend of technical expertise in irrigation systems, strong leadership capabilities, and a deep commitment to optimizing crop growth through effective water management. As the right-hand of our Irrigation Manager, this individual will play a crucial role in overseeing our irrigation systems and contributing to the success of our farm.

 

Key accountabilities include:

  • Work with the Irrigation Manager and grower/s to monitor plant growth, soil moisture, nutrition, and health. 
  • Utilise scientific methods to calculate crop water requirements. Taking advantage of soil moisture monitors, satellite imagery and hyperlocal weather forecasts.
  • Assist in the planning, programming and application of irrigation and fertigation to meet crop requirements.
  • Work closely with the production team, to ensure agreed production practices and systems are delivering the desired result.
  • Troubleshooting irrigation issues and conduct maintenance and repairs.
  • Undertake basic preventative and scheduled maintenance of the irrigation infrastructure, plant & equipment. 
  • Maintain accurate irrigation and fertigation records in-line with company protocol.
  • Maintain adherence to the safe and correct storage, handling, mixing and transportation of chemicals and fertilisers ensuring attention to correct dosages. 
  • Assist the Irrigation Manager in coordinating daily farm activities as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with water usage regulations and environmental standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of irrigation activities, equipment maintenance, and water consumption..

 

To be successful in the role you will possess the following:

  • Experience in irrigation coordination and management. 
  • Experience with subsurface drip and deep well bore pumps would be an advantage.
  • In-depth knowledge of irrigation systems, pumps, valves, and controllers.
  • Understanding of soil-water relationships and irrigation best practices.
  • Mechanical aptitude that highlights experience maintaining and repairing irrigation systems.
  • Excellent time management, work scheduling and planning skills. 
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a dynamic fast paced business.

We are seeking a passionate and driven Field Technical Officer to join our team in Griffith, NSW. As a key member of the Rombola Family Farms production and supply chain teams, the Field Technical Officer will play a pivotal role in developing and operationalising advanced systems for monitoring, analysing, and reporting the quality and shelf-life metrics of our produce. 

The role will ideally suit someone who is keen to learn and grow their career.

 

Key operational accountabilities include:

  • Collaborate proactively with the production and supply chain teams to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Contribute constructively to discussions on production schedules, considering market timing, quality attributes, and internal capacity constraints.
  • Identify and design systems to collect necessary data for monitoring and analysing factors affecting fruit quality and shelf-life.
  • Develop cost-effective, timely, and accurate data collection processes.
  • Analyse collected data to generate reports for senior and operational management, enabling informed decision-making.
  • Lead technical research to enhance production systems, facility designs, and process lines, ensuring adherence to quality and shelf-life requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in systems, processes, reporting, analysis, research, and practices related to the quality and shelf-life of produce.
  • Monitor crop health and maturity to forecast volume and quality of produce on a weekly basis.
  • Collaborate with production teams to adjust irrigation, nutrition, pest and disease control, and other relevant factors as needed.
  • Provide support to our Growers in managing pest, disease, and nutrition challenges through vigilant scouting and informed recommendations. 
  • Step in to support Growers during their absence, during the growing season.

 

To be successful in the role you will possess the following:

  • Qualifications in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Food Science or a related field.
  • Previous field testing experience is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of modern agricultural practices and emerging technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to build effective relationships and communicate with a diverse range of people both internal and external.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The Production Horticulture Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all operational production line tasks to optimise production performance. You will successfully lead the team and be accountable for the safe, clean, and efficient operation of the line. You will be able to get along with people from all walks of life and work with the team to rectify any issues identified.

 

Key operational accountabilities include:

 

  • Ensure scheduled crops for intended harvest have passed the withholding period
  • Ensure that all specialised harvest equipment is maintained
  • Ensure correct harvest to suit conditions of crop, soil moisture and variety to minimize any mechanical damage
  • Liaise with Farm Operation Manager / Shed Production Manager / Maintenance Supervisor
  • Ensure quality of harvest throughout harvest period to minimize damage.

To be successful in the role you will possess the following:

 

  • Previous experience supervising efficient, modern production lines handling fruit, vegetable, or other manufacturing products.
  • Experience with produce graders (MAF Roda, Compac) or similar vision grading systems will be highly advantageous along with integrated warehouse/inventory management systems.
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with a can-do attitude.

The Agronomist is a key support to the agronomy team and will assist with pest monitoring, field trials, and help manage assessments. They will be responsible for field collections of sap, tissue, and soil samples, and prepare the samples for analysis by an independent laboratory. The recording and collation of field data, entry, and analysis of the data into relevant systems is an important part of the role.

Key operational accountabilities include:

The Grower is a key member of the Rombola Family Farms production team. This role will oversee the entire
cropping process from ground preparation, irrigation, fertigation, seeding, through to picking of vegetable crops. Supported by in-house industry agronomy and irrigation personnel, implementation of crop, management practices will be key to increase vegetable yield and success in this role.

Key operational accountabilities include:

• Monitor the agreed production schedule to ensure all tasks are completed in line with agreed timing for all plantings.
• Monitor all plantings throughout the production cycle to ensure all tasks are routinely performed to agreed standard and produce the required outcome operating plant to hold, lift and cut trees.
• Liaise with the production team to alter irrigation, nutrition, weed, pest & disease control, and sun screening in a planting as required.
• Monitor crop health and fruit maturity to forecast fruit volume & quality by week.
• Actively and effectively communicate with outsourced agronomists and consultants.

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a management capacity within the horticulture industry.
• Extensive grower experience with row cropping.

• Operate irrigation systems as designated & scheduled.
• Operate timers, clocks, and controls for sprinklers.

The Irrigation Manager is a key member of the Rombola Family Farms production team. The Machinery Supervisor coordinates the work of employees who set up and operate Rombola Family Farms machinery and equipment. This includes total preventative maintenance, assisting in managing breakdowns of mechanical, electrical, and robotic equipment (including software programming).

Key operational accountabilities include:
• Lead morning toolbox and other meetings as required.
• Assist the Machinery Maintenance Manager in preparing work schedules, assigns work, and oversees the work of fresh produce.
• Adhere to daily and weekly checks to ensure the smooth operation of the site.
• Ensures machinery and equipment functions and outputs are running to specifications.
• Monitors and evaluates production records and reports to management.
• Contributes to the development of processes and procedures.

To be successful in the role you will possess the following:
• Relevant manufacturing/engineering qualification with 2 years’ experience or at least 3 years of experience.
• Extensive plant level experience with significant proven man-management experience.

The position will work within the Maintenance team to conduct routine repairs, preventative and breakdown maintenance on packaging infrastructure and associated equipment (eg Compac grader, box erector, bin tipper). This is a key role to ensure we continuously improve our facilities, effectively and safely supporting the growth in production.

Key operational accountabilities include:
• Diagnose, inspect, service, and perform breakdown repairs and preventive maintenance on packaging infrastructure and associated equipment (eg Compac grader, box erector, bin tipper)
• Examines blueprints, wiring diagrams and specifications to determine sequence and methods of operation.
• Keeps maintenance and repair records.
• Measures and lays out insulation reference points.
• Selects, cuts, and connects wire and cable to terminals and connectors.
• Uses electrical and electronic test instruments to trace and diagnose faults.
• Repairs and replaces faulty wiring and defective parts.
• Positions and installs electrical switchboards.
• Connects electrical systems to power supply.
• Tests continuity of circuit.
• Ensure work areas are always kept clean and tidy, walkways are clear.
• Participate in housekeeping programs as required.
• Perform general maintenance and cleaning duties as required.

To be successful in the role you will possess the following:
• Relevant Certificate III or IV and minimum 2 years’ experience or at least 3 years’ experience in maintaining agricultural electrical machines & equipment.
• Experience with produce graders (MAF Roda, Compac) or similar vision grading systems will be highly advantageous along with integrated warehouse/inventory management systems.
• Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with a can-do attitude.
• Very organised team player who can work effectively with people from different backgrounds.
• Ability to work flexible hours during peak harvest periods.
• Sound working knowledge of WH&S requirements.
• Car License.

Rombola Family Farms encompasses over 4,000 hectares of intensive irrigated horticultural production at Griffith (NSW) and Mataranka (NT). Agricultural enterprises include almonds, wine grapes, seedless watermelon, rockmelons, broccoli, and pumpkin.  Operations include primary production, processing, value adding and marketing. 

We are seeking a passionate and driven Junior Agronomist to join our production team in Griffith, NSW. Working closely with our experienced agronomy team, you will be responsible for field collections of sap, tissue and soil samples, and prepare the samples for in house analysis as well as by an independent laboratory. The recording and collation of field data, entry and analysis of the data into relevant systems is an important part of the role, while analysing produce to set and maintain standards of quality.

This role will suit a recent graduate with an understanding of agronomy, who is looking to start their career and make a meaningful impact in sustainable food production. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop your agronomic skills, and work within a supportive and collaborative environment.  

 

Key accountabilities include:

  • Assist with field trials and help manage assessments
  • Assist with pest and disease monitoring.
  • Field collections of sap, tissue, and soil samples for analysis 
  • Record and collate field and laboratory data and maintain data collection and management processes including entering acquired data into database.
  • Prepare laboratory samples for analysis, following proper protocols to ensure that they will be stored, prepared, and disposed of efficiently and effectively.
  • Prepare data summaries, reports, analysis that include results, charts, and graphs to document research findings and trend results.

 

To be successful in the role you will possess the following:

  • A qualification in Agriculture, Agronomy or related field.
  • A good understanding of crop cultivation techniques, fertilization, pest management and irrigation systems 
  • Strong attention to detail and thoroughness
  • Excellent observation and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a team or independently with minimal supervision 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in using computers for data management and analysis

We are seeking a passionate and driven QA & Warehouse Assistant to join our team based in Wingfield, Adelaide. Reporting to our QA Manager in Griffith, NSW, the QA & Warehouse Assistant will support supply chain operations by managing incoming and outgoing quality control and assisting in despatch processes.

This role will work out of Collins Transport as a conduit between both sites and customers. Collins is a world class third-party logistics provider that covers supply routes across the country. They have a modern facility based 15 minutes from the Adelaide CBD. 

 

Key operational accountabilities include:

  • Assess quality of incoming fruit for storage
  • Undertake outgoing quality assessment of all orders prior to despatch
  • Assist in picking and labelling of orders
  • Understand and manage stock rotation and storage, ensuring our customers receive high quality fresh produce daily
  • Undertake regular stocktakes
  • Use, maintain and calibrate quality control instruments 
  • Use P2M software to record QA data, manage stock on hand, and understand order despatch requirements
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders from Collins Transport and internal Rombola Family Farms teams including QA, Sales and Supply Chain
  • Assist in shelf life testing of product
  • Assist in rework/repacking on an as needed basis
  • Understand and maintain food safety requirements

 

To be successful in the role you will possess the following:

  • Current unencumbered Driver’s Licence
  • Forklift Licence (Preferable) 
  • Ability to lift up to 15kg to meet role requirements
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with a can-do attitude
  • Flexibility in hours worked to achieve operational targets, ability to work weekends highly desirable
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • High Level of attention to detail
  • Background in food production/quality control highly desirable
